Objectives
This 90 minute online event aims to gather input from ELIXIR members on mechanisms for developing and supporting the components of the ELIXIR Infrastructure for the upcoming ELIXIR Programme for 2024-2028.
Scope
ELIXIR’s 2019-2023 Scientific Programme has an objective to ‘operate a portfolio of integrated services that meet the data needs of life scientists at a European scale.’ Based on our experiences with building and running services to now, what have we learned that can inform the goals of the 2024-2028 Scientific Programme?
Some services are commissioned from within the ELIXIR Programme, some from ELIXIR-run projects, some from ELIXIR Node or other activities; how do we choose which form the infrastructure? Some services are run by small, dedicated teams, some by international collaborations, and some as fully distributed virtual organisations; which of these models do we support, and how? Together, all of the services should connect to form a coherent, comprehensible, connected resource for researchers; how do we guide the individual developments towards a common architectural vision and service model?
This session will review some of the models for service design, development and delivery which are being used in the ELIXIR Programme and associated Projects. Attendees will be invited to provide their perspective on how the future Service Infrastructure should be developed and sustained.
Who is it for?
Anyone who is part of ELIXIR and has an interest, experience or ideas on the ways distributed infrastructures can be developed and supported in the 2024-28 Programme. Perspectives from established ELIXIR service providers and those involved in the development of new services will be particularly welcome.
Event outputs
Outputs including slides will be made available after the event on the ELIXIR intranet (requires login).
