Consultation event on Areas of Focus

This event will be run twice in the same format:

Objectives

This 90 minute online event aims to provide ELIXIR Members with an opportunity to influence the scientific areas of focus and the mechanisms to support them for the upcoming ELIXIR Programme for 2024-2028. 

Scope

Consultations around the 2024-2028 Programme have identified a question on whether among the scientific and technical fields ELIXIR works, some should have more investment and time devoted to them than others. For example in the 2019-2023 Scientific Programme, Human Genomics and Translational Data was identified as a specific focus area and has benefitted from additional investment and strategic priority.

Are there similar areas of scientific research - ‘Areas of Focus’ - in need of significant additional support and infrastructure investment? How should these investment choices be made - driven by technical analysis of need, community demand from the areas of focus, or based on the priorities of our partners, stakeholders and funders? Which ELIXIR mechanisms should be used to deliver the strategic vision and additional investment for areas we select?

This event will outline some of the current funding landscape and ELIXIR mechanisms and will ask ELIXIR Members for suggestions on how Areas of Focus should be addressed in the 2024-2028 Scientific Programme.

Who is it for?

Any ELIXIR Member with an interest in where we direct our scientific domain focus in the 24-28 Programme and how we support the areas that focus. Perspectives from ELIXIR Communities and those involved in Human Genomics and Translational Data Area of Focus in the 2019-2023 Programme will be welcome.
